Eataly is a treasure trove of culinary delights, just steps away from Liverpool Street Station.
Italian food lovers are gravitating towards this emporium of delicacies in Shoreditch. The innovative centre is a one-stop shop for groceries, dining, drinking and events. The food market boasts four great restaurants, each offering a different vibe. The cooking and wine-tasting classes are ideal for date nights.
Eataly’s website asks the question, “Who said vegan has to be boring?” The vegan menu is indeed an exciting slice of vegan heaven. Highly recommended are the zuppa di zucca (butternut squash soup), the broccoli pizza (a tender stem and chilli pepper symbiosis to die for). The orecchiette (‘little ears’) pasta with pesto rosso and mandorle are excellent.
Desserts are out of this world, Diners can’t get enough of the ciambellone al cioccolato vegano – a donut-shaped chocolate cake, topped with crunchy nuts, dried fruit and icing.
The Terra restaurant is outstanding with its show-stopping grill, fired with exquisite Calabrian wood. A favourite dish is the Fornello Pugliese: a mouthwatering selection of Puglia-style skewers slow cooked in charcoal and served with salmoriglio sauce and roast potatoes. The beef bavette with heirloom peppers and sausages with fennel seeds are perfect for carnivores with class!
Eataly is Oscar Farinetti’s baby. The businessman had the dream of selling high-quality food at sustainable and reasonable prices, whilst celebrating Italian biodiversity. His website proudly explains: “All of the ingredients we cook with can be found in the market to buy.” The beauty of the dishes is that they can be recreated easily at home.
One can certainly be inspired by Eataly’s mission statement:
